Research within KHeaT
The Chair of Continuum Mechanics in Mechanical Engineering develops methods for the continuum mechanical modelling and simulation of the material behavior of applied materials, including microstructure and special deformation mechanisms. The work includes both a basic and an application-oriented description of the materials. Methodological foci are the mathematical modelling in the context of nonlinear continuum mechanics, the application of homogenization methods, scientific computing and material identification based on experiments. Highlights of the research are the modelling of long fiber reinforced materials based on microstructure data obtained by microtomography and the application of advanced continuum theories to model deformation mechanisms in metallic materials considering dislocation structures.
