Physical activity, technology and health across the lifespan
We conduct intervention studies to examine the associations of physical activity with motor performance and cognitive health in older adults with dementia (Bewegung gegen Demenz study). We also develop and evaluate mobile applications to carry out individualized exercise or lifestyle interventions in nursing home residents (InCoPE & BeStAge studies) or families (SMARTFAMILY study). Furthermore, we are part of the interdisciplinary JuBot study, where we examine whether assistive robotics, i.e., exoskeletons and humanoid robots can be used for assessment and training of motor and cognitive performance in older adults. In addition, for the last 20 years, my group has conducted a nation-wide observational study (MoMo - Motoric Module) on the development of motor performance, physical activity and health of children and adolescents, taking into account various factors such as social changes, inequality, digitization, or migration. Our project "MO|RE data" intends to build a generally accessible eResearch infrastructure for sports science motor activity research data, as well as to generate high-quality normative data and to publish accompanying materials for sport motor tests.
